The 'Let Me Help You With Your Kickstarter' DM/Post
Spoiler Alert: It usually never leads to much.
Let's get this out of the way first: as someone who has run, contributed to, and backed several Kickstarters, the successful ones (which is all of them) always share a few common but key elements:
They have a compelling and kickass campaign page
A creator with a pre-existing following
Strong word of mouth through link sharing by friends and online communities, as well as promotion via podcasts or articles
Not once have I heard a successful campaign attribute its success to a random person offering services to boost backers. Ironically, many such offers don’t even involve the simple act of sharing the campaign link. They often have unclear motivations and lack genuine interest in your success. Bottom lining it, folks genuinely interested in supporting in any way find a way to support. Helping promote, backing, or both and odds are …THEY ARE ALREADY DOING IT OR PLANNING TO!
The primary reason for many creators on Kickstarter, though important, isn't just about funding; it's about finding their audience, building a community, and embracing those who support them. When a project resonates deeply—making people laugh, cry, or feel a sense of wonder—supporters will back it and spread the word through sharing.
It takes immense courage and dedication for creators, whether on Kickstarter or elsewhere, to put their passion projects out there, sharing a piece of themselves with the world. When our project, What The #$%# Mama, debuted its first 20-page issue, we saw firsthand how it connected with people from all walks of life. Readers saw their mothers, grandmas, aunties, sisters, and even themselves represented in the pages. The theme of being "Unapologetically Yourself" is central to the book, leading to outrageously funny moments grounded in real events.
The WTF Mama backers and supports new and old are AWESOME! We see ya’ll and we thank you! What’s the most wonderful is that interactions with readers often ended with laughter, sharing of their own WTF Mama-type stories, or heartfelt tears prompted by memories of an outspoken relative who is no longer with them. At its heart, WTF Mama celebrates being outspoken, vibrant, and authentic. In a world that often pressures us to conform, Nanita and her family are a testament to fighting back and being true to oneself.
With this spirit in mind, I'd like to invite you to check out the campaign. If we’ve made you laugh, even elicited a chuckle, we've done our job. Your support means the world to us, and we thank you for considering it!
