One part LAST STARFIGHTER one part GREEN LANTERN, PROTOSTAR was the space part of the universe I was building. Created back in 2003 and revamped and published in 2007 as part of the CEREAL & PAJAMAS Anthology from APE ENTERTAINMENT, PROTOSTAR follows the story of Derek James whose family was struggling to put the pieces back together after deciding to close the book on the three year disappearance of his older brother even though Derek never believed his brother was dead. One day an alien named Nu’Riq shows up also looking for Derek’s brother as they both decide to team up on a journey to find him and uncover the mystery of his disappearance.

Some years later I was toying with the idea to relaunch PROTOSTAR with a younger Derrek James and a more animated style. So I drew up this third revamp. Odds are, the next time he shows up, this younger version is the one you’ll see.

I remember reading these first Protostar pages sometime ago somewhere ago. I think it was a preview? I definitely recall the "Call me Protostar" bit pretty vividly. Definitely a sense of teenage edge (which I'm not gonna pretend that I'm not and can never be into that sort of thing; I can appreciate youths with a sense of edge), but I also think that's cool and can be warranted, depending on context and how it plays out. He's also shown a lot more mellow and youth-filled in those second pages (makes for a good balance to said edge), which I actually don't remember reading until now.

Well, Mr. Ray-Anthony Height, you've just hyped me up to another of your original works! So thank you! :D
